Johannes Baptist Rietstap — Armorial général, Volume 2 (Gouda: G. B. van Goor Zonen, 1884), page 901 (leaf 915) — canonical THERON armorial entry at the canonical French heraldic register: 'Théron — Lang., Quercy' (D'or au chev. d'azur, acc. de trois tulipes de gu., tigées et feuillées du même; S.: deux lions reg.) = Or, a chevron Azure between three tulips Gules stalked and leaved of the same; supporters two lions reguardant. GEOGRAPHIC MATCH at Languedoc for the Cape stamvader Jacques Therond of Nimes, Languedoc. Also records the NEGATIVE finding at the spelling THEROND: the alphabetical sequence at pages 901-902 runs Theron -> Theroneau with no Therond entry

Chain of custody

  1. origin: Johannes Baptist Rietstap (1828-1891), Armorial Général, Volume 2 (L-Z), Gouda 1884 — the canonical French heraldic register the record already uses for Lombard (SRC-2026-018), Mouton (SRC-2026-020) and Crosnier/Cronje (SRC-2026-021)
  2. method: Two-instrument engagement, and the second corrected the first. (1) The IA full-text OCR search plugin was queried for 'Theron' and for 'Theron' with its acute accent: BOTH RETURNED ZERO MATCHES. The instrument was verified capable on the same volume and the same section before that zero was trusted — 'Lombard' returned the 8 matches at leaves 106/263/1288 that SRC-2026-018 already records, and 'Thibault' returned 12 matches at leaf 916, proving the T section indexed and legible. (2) The page IMAGES for leaves 915 and 916 were then pulled via the IIIF image API and READ. The Theron entry is present at page 901, foot of the left column. THE OCR SEARCH RETURNED A FALSE NEGATIVE; the page image did not.
  3. intermediary: Two JPEG page images preserved in this item at file-register: leaf 915 (page 901, Themseke -> Theuring, carrying the Theron entry) 1,684,097 bytes sha256 26faf76d6359ea27; leaf 916 (page 902, Theux -> Thicknesse, the following neighbourhood) 1,940,524 bytes sha256 31765551eacbbe1a
